One of the important lessons I learned in Marketing 101 in college is that when things get tough the
last thing you should do is to cut your marketing budget.
If you have not been tracking the results of your marketing/advertising campaigns, you do not know
what works and what does not work. Any good business coach will say that you should "test and measure"
each of your marketing/advertising campaigns so that you know what works.
When money is tight, it is easy to cut your marketing budget if you don't know what works. What you
need to do is analyze your marketing/advertising and see where you can get ahead of your competition
and bring in more sales. In addition, by doing your marketing now when others are cutting back, you also can
position yourself to be ahead of your competition when things recover.
Now is a great time to evaluate your marketing/advertising including your website. Your website
should be part of your overall marketing plan. Some things you can do with your website that can
help increase your business are:
- Add a coupon to help bring in business and then track how many get used.
- Update your website to make it more search engine friendly to increase the odds that your
customers will find you on the web.
- If your website has not been updated in the last year update some of the content to give
your website some fresh content and a fresh look. This is good for the visitor and the search engines.
- Be sure that your website address is included on all of you other marketing and advertising information.
The goal of this newsletter is to provide you with information and ideas that will allow you to improve your
website and your business.
