Below are several things to keep in mind if you want a professional looking website:
- Paragraphs
Especially on your homepage, don't bog down the user experience with long paragraphs. Keep the page easy to view by using bullet points and links to more content rather than a long, long homepage.
- Clutter
Keep the site simple and to the point, especially the homepage. Don't attempt to put EVERYTHING on the homepage. Links to other pages will help keep the clutter from distracting your visitors.
- Speed
The site must be one that can download quickly, otherwise users will leave and go elsewhere rather than wait to see your information.
How long will you wait for a page to download?
- Don't use multiple fonts (lettering styles).
Getting over-creative with fonts can make a site hard to read and distract the visitors viewing your site. Pick one or two fonts and stick with them.
- For a professional look, use a professional service.
The term "you get what you pay for" really can be true when it comes to websites. Many small business people have sites designed by amateurs (or themselves), and it looks like it! This automatically tells your prospects that you are second rate.
The goal of this newsletter is to provide you with information and ideas that will allow you to improve your
web site and your business.
